Happy New Years 2010

Tonight we close out a decade. 2000- 2009.

They always say, "Where do you see yourself in 10 years?"  Let me answer that well I didn't see myself moving to 2 different houses. I didn't see myself unemployed looking for a job with a government spending out of control. Well I hope 2010 is better then the past decade. There were good times too.

Nice weekend, Worked on Computer

I worked on my computer this weekend. Well it wasn’t much I was backing up to a external hard drive. I am going to use the drive, I backed up from, in my original Xbox. I already have a 250GB in my Xbox compared to the 8GB stock. My new drive I will be installing if all goes well is just a precaution so I won’t mess up my other already installed drive with I install DSL (Damn Small Linux) on it.

I would like to use my Xbox as a small server. I’ve been told that I will still be able to play games on it but I’m not sure so that is why I am installing another drive to test this theory out.

I also install Windows 7 RC 7100 on my brothers laptop, my old laptop he uses. When the install was complete it had some missing drivers, Video, Audio, Wireless Adapter, & Multimedia card support. The video showed up no problem it just needed to be updated. All the drivers were install but the multimedia card, windows update couldn’t find one. Windows 7 RC 1000 ran pretty good on that old computer which I purchased as my first Personal Computer (PC) back in June of 2005.

I think Windows 7 will be a great OS when it is released in October 22, this year. I ordered 4 copies when they were only selling for $49.99. Windows Home Premium Upgrade version, now they are $120 per license.

The Tech Guy with Leo Laporte – Aug 22, 2009

I was lucky enough to get on the show, The Tech Guy with Leo Laporte.

I asked him the question below:

Q Justin, ElCampo, TX - Office 2000 update

Justin only uses Word and Excel from Office 2000. Should he allow updates to the rest of the suite which he hasn’t installed? Leo says go ahead, it won’t hurt it and some files are shared in the suite anyway.

Well that’s all well & good but I wasn’t asking about Office 2000 but Office 2007. Leo didn’t ask me to clarify what version it was but I guess it didn’t matter was what version it was, it would probably work the same way.

Thank you Leo for taking my call. I called 11 times & had 2 callers in front of me before I went on the air.

Happy Belated 20th Birthday – Sega Genesis

I know I missed the birthday of the Sega Genesis, but I didn’t realize it was so close. I am two days late. Sega Genesis debut on August 14, 1989 in North America. (wiki).

I was 2 1/2 yrs old @ it debut. At my dentist office there was a Sega Genesis in the waiting room but we didn’t have enough time to play it or some other kid was already playing it.

Well that’s it I would just like to post this to wish Sega Genesis a belated Happy 20th Birthday.

Haven't Posted in a while.

I know I haven't posted in a while. I go to work, then come home and later go to sleep.

I haven't done much since my last post. He have gotten some rain, which is nice it is dry here. Modded my xbox, the original xbox. I installed a bigger drive, 250GB from the 10GB. I like to turn it into a server one day.

I've upgraded my video card in my PC to a Nivida GeForce 1GB 9400 GT. It has no fan just a heat sink it gets hot around 138*F. This is normal never the less. It does have a small connector for a fan that I can place on it if need be. My PC have front intake fan that I should pull air in to cool it. It should do alright that's why I installed it into my pc, because it has a front intake to pull air to it to cool it. I also got roughly the same card 512MB model that has a fan for my families pc, it has no intake fan so it need a fan to cool it. It hasn't been installed yet, but I will soon.

I am trying to stay away from ebay for a while so I won't spend too much money. I do plan to purchase something that is a good deal that has a $20 dollar rebate. It ends at end of April, I will wait until then to possibly order it.

Well that's all,

Not so productive weekend

Sunday I attempted to upgrade my "families" PC only to determine that the CPU I installed didn't work. I spent a lot of time taking that whole thing apart but I guess things happen. Static electricity would indeed destroy a CPU, but I used precautions and I know I didn't shock it. It was quickly approved for RMA return by Newegg.com & UPS picked it up today for replacement. I just have to wait until a new one arrives.

Till Then,

Working on Computers this weekend

Well I installed a newer processor (CPU) in my computer. It took a little time because I have to take out all my expansion cards. I took a while mostly because I had to carry the PC to my kitchen table to get it high enough to work on. If I had more room in my room I wouldn't of had too do that.

Once that was done I had to update the BIOS so it would work with the new processor. It took some time to do because I couldn't do it like I wanted, by installing a floppy drive and loading the new .ROM file for the BIOS, the application I used didn't work, it didn't see the file. Luckily, my motherboard has many options to update the BIOS. I had to create a bootable MS-DOS floppy disk and copy the program which was on my ASUS support CD, to a floppy but it was too big bigger then 1.44MB, I was thinking it wanted to have everything on one disk. But what I did was create two disks I created a MS-DOS on one, the other was the ROM flashing program, and new ROM file and it worked. I was just glad I had other options for update the BIOS.

I spent most of the night watching "Titus" and running Spinrite on some hard drives I'm going to use when I upgrade my families PC, not mine.

So I just to post the update.

Later.

P.S. I still have not used my new camcorder Canon FS100. I just haven't had time from work and working on my computers. Frankly I just don't have time with work. I tired from after work so I try to do stuff on the weekends.

Things I did this weekend

Friday I was going to stay up late to work on things but I didn't. I went to bed around midnight.

To make a long story short, I played with my new Canon camcorder. Saturday I installed my new hard-drive on my laptop. It took a few hours to install it using the recovery CD.

I just finished running memtest86, to check for memory errors, on my new RAM I ordered.

I am going to upgrade my PC's at home, probably next weekend, can't wait hope anything goes okay.

Good Night

Just Blogging.....

Well I just wanted to post a blog, inform readers of activies that I'm doing and just to keep my blog active.

First, I'm looking into updating my main page @ justinstrack.com to something different. I'm going to work on that this week and into the weekend. I have no specific date to when it will be finished.

Second, I'm getting a Canon FS100 camcording coming in the mail, hope to post some videos when that arrives so there after.

That's about it for now tomorrow I got to go to work.

P.S.

Another thing I ordered many things for my computers in my house. Well, there are 2 main computers  in my home, put I have a few more then two entirely.

Anyways, I ordered new CPU's 1 for my families computer and more RAM as well. Plus I ordered a new CPU, and RAM for my personal computer. I have a extra motherboard I am going to install on my families PC, the current mobo in the computer is maxed out to the speed it can go. So all-in-all, I ordered 2 CPU's RAM and hard drives. About $700.00 or so but all the items except for the CPU's were under $100 which is cheap so I couldn't pass it up.

So when that comes in I will install it. At least a week or so until delivery.

P.S.S

My goal for my upgrade on my personal computer is to quiet down my cpu fan, I hope the bundled fan which comes with the processor will be quiet, so I could at least leave it running at night.

I purchase a Dell Deminision 2400 from ebay, a while back, which I use all the time, right now in fact, it is very quiet because I'm able to sleep with it running. I use it to record shows at night while I'm sleeping.

Well that is it for the night
